We repeat constantly, day after day. We can repeat forms, images, objects, actions. Music and theatre are pure repetition. However, repetition contains a fundamental contradiction: it cannot exist; it fades simultaneously with time. Essential matters —geometry, nature, the human, the soul, to name a few— are always the same. What varies, and renders repetition impossible, are the different manifestations of the essential, bound both to individual perceptions and to temporality. In my artistic practice, I seek to embrace this contradictory quality as a condition that cannot be evaded and does not allow for a closed resolution. Nevertheless, I have come to understand repetition from multiple perspectives: repetition as a validation of our thoughts and feelings; repetition as a method of learning and understanding; repetition as an illusion of order and control. Repetition also as a mimesis of the cyclical condition of the universe; consequently, infinite repetition.
