“Where there is matter, there is geometry.” [Johannes Kepler]

"PLÁSTINO" is a body of experimental works created from collected plastics, both from personal use and gathered from my immediate surroundings. Upon arriving in Mexico, I intuitively began collecting plastic as a consequence of my scepticism towards its recycling processes. Only 9% of the world’s plastic is recycled, while nearly eight million metric tonnes enter the oceans each year. In other words, the fact that something is recyclable does not necessarily mean that it will be recycled.

Through the use of auxiliary materials — such as modelling paste, metal rivets, marble dust and paint — I intervene upon these discarded elements in order to reveal their geometry and modular characteristics. It is a slow process rooted in careful observation, in the search for correspondences, fittings and relationships, where the physical qualities of the materials themselves act as guides for constructing something beyond their original condition.
