THE KINDNESS OF THE DIGITAL AGE, 2016-2025.
DIGITAL DRAWINGS, ILLUSTRATIONS, SCREENSHOTS, MANIPULATED PHOTOGRAPHS, GIFS AND VIDEO ANIMATIONS.
VARIABLE DIMENSIONS
L.B.D.L.E.D. (for its Spanish acronym) gathers a series of experimentations developed since 2016, that share their genesis in digital procedures using programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and Photo Booth. These exercises have manifested themselves as drawings, intervened photographs, illustrations, gifs and video-animation. The vast majority remain archived with the illusion of some day becoming tangible, as for some reason still unclear to me, leaving them solely in the digital realm feels insufficient; they seem soulless. I suspect that if a created an image using AI the feeling would be the same. Therefor, my participation in the residency at the Citè Internationale des Arts becomes an opportunity and a propitious space not only for attempting the materialization of these images that return as unfulfilled desires, but also due to the importance of generating new discourses around AI in a community environment of transdisciplinary dialogue. Creation is a rich process of trials and errors and AI should not be an obstacle nor an end in itself, but rather remain as another tool for creation and the expansion of knowledge. I perceive them as highly pictorial images, which is why I'm drawn to the idea of transferring them to painting, drawing, screen printing, embroidery, and digital printing. However, the medium itself is ultimately less critical than the expressive form these images need to fully emerge. Leaving them exclusively in digital format might restrict their potential; how could they be transformed through materialization? What dialogues could arise between digital processes and manual techniques?
